pre-existing medical conditions & mature-aged travellers

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, or are a mature-aged traveller, you will have to complete an assessment before we can provide you with Good2Go travel insurance. If you have a past or current medical condition or will be over the age 76 at your date of departure, please read the following information, or call our helpful team on 0800 600 260 for more information.

PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS

What is a pre-existing medical condition?

"Pre- Existing Condition" means, in relation to You or any other person on whom Your Travel depends:

  1. within the 6 months prior to and including any time following the completion of Your Application Form for this Policy until the date of Your departure for Travel any physical defect, condition, illness or disease
    1. for which treatment, medication or advice has been received or prescribed by a medical or dental practitioner;
    2. is aware of or for which symptoms are such that a reasonable person would have sought medical or dental attention;
  2. any allergic, chronic or ongoing (whether chronic or otherwise) medical or dental condition, illness or disease medically documented prior to the issue of this Policy; or
  3. any medical or dental concern under investigation or recorded on a hospital or surgical waiting list for further treatment or investigation.

Can I apply for Pre-existing medical Conditions cover?

Yes,

  1. If you are under 76 years of age and travelling under one of our International Comprehensive Leisure, Australia or Multi-Trip travel policies.
  2. If you are 76 years or older and travelling under the International Comprehensive Leisure Policy.

Applying for cover

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, simply call 0800 367 244 to complete our phone-based medical assessment. You will then receive an approval number and will be able to complete your application online. Before you call please refer below to conditions that may be covered as you may not require a formal assessment.

If you are aged 76 years or older refer below to the mature age traveller information.
 

Conditions that may be covered

Certain pre-existing medical conditions do not require assessment by us provided:

  1. you only have one of the listed conditions;
  2. your duration of travel does not exceed 3 months;
  3. you were not hospitalised for the condition in the last year;
  4. you are travelling to usual tourist destinations engaging in low grade physical activities; and
  5. You are aged 75 years or younger.

The specified conditions are listed below:

  • stable high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia)
  • high lipids (hyperlipidaemia)
  • diet-controlled diabetes
  • menopausal syndrome (hormone replacement therapy)
  • non-ulcerative gastric reflux
  • gout
  • hay fever
  • rhinitis
  • hiatus hernia
  • cataracts
  • underactive thyroid (Hypothyroidism)
  • routine screening test where no underlying disease has been detected.

If you meet the above criteria your pre-existing medical condition is deemed to be automatically accepted by us, subject to the terms and conditions of the Policy.
 

Conditions that cannot be covered

Some medical conditions and health-related events cannot be covered. These are summarised as follows:

  • conditions for which you have been given a terminal or malignant prognosis
  • sexually transmitted diseases or viruses
  • AIDS, HIV or AIDS related conditions
  • alcohol or drug addictions
  • mental or nervous disorders
  • depression or anxiety
  • continuing with any form of treatment begun before your journey
  • pregnancy or childbirth
  • where you are travelling against medical advice
  • where you are travelling for the purpose of obtaining medical advice or treatment
  • any pre-existing medical conditions of relative(s) who are not part of your travelling party.

MATURE-AGED TRAVELLERS

What is a mature-aged traveller?

Anyone who will be 76 years or older on the date of departure.
 

Applying for cover

If you will be over 76 years old on your date of departure, simply print out and complete our mature-aged traveller assessment form and fax it to 09 309 9329. We will assess your application and contact you with 24 hours of receiving your completed form.

What is a pre-existing medical condition?

If you require cover for a pre-existing medical condition, your usual doctor must fully complete the Health Application.
